GJ Getting Better

I have found out that GJ Vilarino is getting a whole lot better after having a huge slump after he committed to Kentucky. People have wondered if he is good enough to go to Kentucky and play. I am really confident to see him as a GREAT Kentucky player. Here is what he had to say about his game.

“When I first committed, I don’t think I fully understood the magnitude of it,” he said. “Now I understand it better. People are going to come after me because I am going to play for the best program in the country, so basically it is just me trying to get better every day.

“I love the fans and how they love basketball down there. I think it’s a perfect fit for me when I get there.”

Galloway and Liggins back on track

I don't know if this is true or not but I hope it is. This morning I heard that Deandre Liggins and Galloway will probably be eligible.

….for all intents and purposes right now, they are eligible. Everyone is much less worried as the biggest concern has been taken care of and everyone is operating under the assumption that both will play. Like everything, this could change, but no one expects any result but both playing next year. The final official word is likely to come early next week.

If this is true then Kentucky Will be really great next year.

Qua Huzzie a Wildcat

Kentucky Got another Great Commitment the other day as they got Qua Huzzie. He is ranked as Rivals’ 39th best linebacker (30th on Scout.com). Huzzie, 5′11″ 205, is a three-star player in the mold of former LaGrange linebacker Wesley Woodyard and is the Cats’ 13th commitment for the class of 2009. Some scouts are concerned with his size, but like his ability to stop the run and the way he uses his leverage to get through the line and make a stop. ESPN says that he can be very effective in a system that uses him as a blitzer and he will be a “future special teams stud”. Last year at LaGrange, Huzzie recorded 102 tackles and had two INTs (one for a TD) for the Grangers who finished 8-3. Huzzie runs a 4.59 40 and picked the Cats over Ole Miss, South Carolina, Oklahoma State and Duke.

Huzzie is the latest in a long list of players from LaGrange. Woodyard got the ball rolling and now the Cats have three other former Grangers on the roster in DB Randall Burden, WR Demoreo Ford and LB Braxton Kelley. The Cats might not yet be done with LaGrange either as Huzzie’s fellow linebackers Demetri Merritt and Kobina Essandoh, as well as DE Tristan Johnson, list the Cats as possible destinations.

Reese a Wildcat?

The buzz on Sunday night was the speculation on another site that Kentucky may have another 2008 commitment, potentially as early as this week. If this news is true (and I have no reason to believe it isnt), then it is Brad Reese, the young man from the Florida Community College that we spoke about a couple of weeks here and who a couple of people have told me may have already committed to UK privately. Reese is a wing player who can put the ball in the basket and is said to have a great deal of skill. Very little (if anything) is known about the kid beyond that and my assumption is that almost no one outside of the coaching staff has ever seen him play. If he indeed is announced as a new UK player soon (and gets deemed eligible), fans must trust that he truly is a “diamond in the rough” of the highest degree. My only worry….that having a guy named Reese, leads to far too many “Reese’s pieces” jokes by Herald Leader headline writers in the near future.

“It’s been a good summer so far. I’m excited about what’s going to happen in the fall and I hope our guys are going to do well. I’m really excited about their enthusiasm and their work. I’m excited about the upcoming year.”

How different is this summer than last summer?

“The players have a greater sense of comfort because there is not as much that is unknown.They’ve developed relationships with other players and I think they know more of what to expect.”
You said that Patrick (Patterson) is farther along than you expected. Can you tell us some of the things that he has been doing?
“He’s working hard. He had surgery and he was going to be in a cast for six weeks and a boot for six weeks. They took x-rays after they took off the cast and they said the healing was farther along than expected. So, they put him in the boot and he is going in for another x-ray tomorrow. He’s been doing a lot rehab in the pool on campus in the underwater treadmill. It’s a great rehabilitation device. It’s probably helped him with conditioning and I think it may help him return a little quicker.
He’s been doing his rehab on the treadmill, but he hasn’t been able to return to the court yet. I think that the treadmill will help him return to the court in about three or four weeks. It looks like things are way ahead of schedule as far as recovery.”
Who do you think is going to be your on-court leader next year?
“Our on-court leader is probably going to be Patrick Patterson. He’s not going to initiate the offense unless he had a recovery that would allow him to be a lead guard; and that would be okay. He’s been our off court leader. His attitude is fantastic. So far I have not been a part of a group, as a whole, that is as determined and eager. I’m not making any predictions for the NCAA tournament, but I really do like what’s going on. As far as who is going to play the point guard position for us, that is yet to be determined. I believe that we have many options, but as far as saying, ‘this is going to be our point guard’, is undetermined. We have a lot of inexperience right now.”
Any thought at playing Meeks at point guard?
“As he progresses in his rehab, he’s done well. They say the soreness is subsiding and getting better on a daily basis. I think that he does have some of those leadership qualities. He’s a fairly experienced guy just not at that particular position, but if that’s what we need to do, I think he’s a candidate to do that.”
You mentioned Patrick’s off-court recovery. How central is he to what you plan on doing in the upcoming season?
“He’s very important and we’re going to throw it in their a lot. We’re going to play off him a lot. I think that the post is an area where our team is going to be vastly improved. I think that we’re going to be able to feed the post a lot better a lot earlier in the year. We obviously know that that’s where our bread is going to be buttered. He’ll get a lot of touches a game. Last year, the least amount of times that the post players ever touched the ball in a game was 84 times. The most they ever touched it was 125. In Patrick’s last five games, he touched the ball an average of 68 times. I would assume those numbers will be fairly consistent next year.”
I know you had an All-American player at Texas A & M. Are you going to find that kind of leadership out of Patterson not just on the court, but off the court as well?
“He’s a very special person. He’s a very determined basketball player. He’s determined ineverything he does. His reaction, response, and the way he is going about his rehab is great. Hemight have actually lost weight during his rehab. That’s one of the things a player has to concern themselves with is inactivity and gaining weight from it. His conditioning for not being able to do anything for a long period of time is fantastic. He’s working and his body looks great. He’s a very determined guy. Everyone knows it and everyone can see it. He’s been talking a lot with his teammates, he’s played a great recruiter, and he is a great ambassador for the university, but to answer your question, he’s responded to such a great responsibility so early in his career. He’s never let us down on anything.”
There was some talk last year about Patrick possibly playing forward, but right now itsounds like you would rather continue to feed him in the low post.
“In those last five games, he got as many touches in the high post as he did in the low post. I think that this year we will probably be able to utilize him more in the high post because I think Perry Stevenson has really emerged. I thought that he had a really good season last year and I think that he has taken another step forward this spring and summer. He feels more confident and comfortable that he can be a really good player at this level and then have a great future after he gets done here. I think A.J. (Stewart) has really improved and he’s maturing quite a bit. Jared (Carter) has had a good summer so far and a good trip over to Africa. I’m really excited about (Josh) Harrelson and what he’s going to do. So, I think we’re going to have an infinitely higher amount of options and flexibility than we’ve had in the past; but we’re not going to say that Patrick is a prototype power forward and let him play on the perimeter. That’s just not going to happen, but he is going to be a versatile player. You’ll see him probably have a great deal more of success in the high post area as far as scoring.”
Is Mark Coury coming back to play?
“At the end of the year, he asked if he could — he wasn’t on scholarship — and he asked if I would mind if he got a release to five or six different schools so that he could seek a scholarship and I said, ‘Absolutely.’ The way I look at it, I want Mark back, and he hasn’t decided if he’s going to come back. He was an important part of our team last year, but if I can’t give him a scholarship, or if I choose not to give him a scholarship, and he can get a scholarship somewhere else to pay for his school, I understand that totally. He’s in the midst of talking to some people.”

Joe Crawford doing Great

Joe Crawford had 16 points on 6-13 shooting, including a robust and perfect 1-1 from three point range. Crawford added 3 boards, an assist and a steal for LA, bringing his summer league averages to 11.3 ppg, 2 rpg, 1 apg and 1 spg.

Congrats to Joe and his fabulous start in the summer league.

Ryan M has cats top 4

Ryan Mossokawski, one of the highest ranked quarterbacks in America has narrowed his list to four schools….Kentucky, Texas A&M, Auburn and Alabama. Mossokawski would be one of the biggest out-of-state gets for Kentucky in its recent recruiting history and the news is big for the program. Ryan visited UK last week and Jeff has interviewed him and he had a great time on the trip.

Congrats to Kentucky's football staff.

Brad Reese going to big time program?

Brad Reese, a Juco/Community College player from Florida who the Cats are now considering for the 2008 class. Reese is a strong scorer, 6′6″ who had a good season playing on a team that includes Gabriel Charlie (the high school teammate of AJ Stewart. Having never seen Reese play, I have no info on whether he is any good or not and the question as to whether he may be eligible next season is still very much an open one. However UK is looking at Reese, and some other 2008 options, showing that they are not content to sit back and wait for 2009. I hope that Billy Gillispie makes the right decision to bring on to the team this time.

Daniel Orton having cats in first

I have some good news of Daniel Orton and his recuitment and he told HoopsReport.com that UK was still the leader for his services and he has no other “favorites” at the moment. He did list UCLA, Kansas, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma and UConn as other schools he was considering. This is really good news to Kentucky couse there might be no other big man that will be really consider Kentucky at this point. I hope Billy Gillispie lands this guy on his roster.

News on Wall and Miller

From SI.com….note that this guy likes KC Ross-Miller (which makes me happy) and that John Wall when asked about schools, once again lists different ones in each interview:

“Two of the nation’s top point guard prospects in the class of 2010 spent Saturday morning canceling out one another, but one managed to shake the other long enough to shoot his team to a win. Team Texas guard KC Ross Miller, a Kentucky commitment, nearly dueled to a draw with Boo Williams guard Kendall Marshall, a North Carolina commitment, but Miller’s six-point, four-assist stat line included a late jumper that lifted his team to a 66-63 win. Marshall finished with nine points and five assists in the first tournament matchup of two players who likely will see a lot of one another in the next few years.”

“By my lights, the best player at the event was John Wall, the 6-4 point guard from Raleigh, N.C., whom Rivals.com ranks as the No. 1 player in the Class of 2009. As my colleague Kevin Armstrong detailed last week, Wall was a relative unknown this time last year, so this was my first chance to see him play. I was skeptical that he would be reminiscent of Derrick Rose as I was told, but that turns out to be an apt comparison. Like Rose, Wall is a suspect shooter (he probably makes a higher percentage than Rose did at this stage, but Wall shoots more of a slowly-delivered set shot). But my goodness, does Wall find people! With his size, quickness and ridiculous jumping ability, Wall went wherever he wanted with the ball and he finished strongly in traffic. Wall has participated in basketball camps at Baylor and Oklahoma State, and those two coaches, Scott Drew and the newly-hired Travis Ford, were at every one of Wall’s games. Hunter McClintock Update

Here s an update of Hunter McClintock. At this point Hunter is planning on attending Patterson Prep in North Carolina for next season….but that could change. The Wildcats are pursuing him at this point….but it is the Arizona Wildcats. Since Jennings decided to head to Europe, Arizona has been actively recruiting McClintock and saying they are interested in him for next year. Hunter’s father said that Arizona is one of the “few types of schools” that Hunter would go to instead of prep school. He has offers from other schools, but he wants to play at a top-tier program.

As for Kentucky, no contact since the Elite Camp. Speaking of the Elite camp here is a video of him of the Elite Camp.

Joe Crawford has a good debut

Not a bad showing for former Cat Joe Crawford in his first summer league showing against the Pistons last night. Joe went for 9 points and 2 rebounds in 21 minutes in a loss to the Pistons.

The next chance to catch Joe and the Lakers is Sunday night againts the Grizzlies. The games is at 8 pm again and on NBA TV. Interesting side note: A “M. Southall” had a DNP-Coaches decision for the Lakers last night. And, yes, it’s that Michael Southall.

Liggins and Galloway may not play

Deandre Liggins and Kevin Galloway may not play Blue Grass Ball this next year couse they are not qualified (so far). The reason for that is is that they are not getting a good GPA average. Not any Disrespect to them both, they are good players, excuse me they are great players but is it that hard to ask to keep up with there grades. If you can't keep up with your grades then how are you going to keep up with their collage grades. No disrespect out there to all them Ballaz, but school is actually more important than playing basketball and soon make the big Bucks. That's what I think, and thats a little harsh but I can't stand it anymore that tons of kids throw there life away and cant go to college and they flip burgers at McDonalds in the next four years. These guys are the two main players coming into this team next year and I hope the team will not suck because they did not make their team couse of grades. Not only will they get blamed, it will also be Gillispie's fault to to some of the UK fans.

John Jenkins moved Up on Rankings

John Jenkins has moved up on Rivals.com from the top 50's to 32nd in the nation. Why am I making a post about him? Because this guy goes to my school and a good friend of mine. Jenkins commited earlier in the school year to Vandy. I have never asked him why not Kentucky but there is probably a good reason. I Joke with him at shootarounds some times of him going to vandy than kentucky. I push it sooo far that I where Kentucky stuff to school just to mess with him a bit. This guy for what I heard is kind of a kentucky FAN so I am wondering what Billy Gillispie was doing when he was recruiting John. All I know is this guy is special and Gillispie missed out on a great player and a great guy. Anyways this guy can fill it up. He was averaging almost 35 points a game this year in high school and he is a star on his AAU team and he is only a Junior. Not only that he won state Mr. Basketball in Tennessee. He is a great guy with a good attitude. If this guy keeps on moving up, there is a Mcdonalds all-american game for him in the future. Congrats John!!!!!!!

NBA Summer Camp Beginning in Orlando

The NBA is going to start their first summer camp beginning today in Orlando. The summer leagues have been a showcase for UK players in year’s past as guys like Erik Daniels, Chuck Hayes, Kelenna Azubuike, Gerald Fitch, Randolph Morris and even Rajon Rondo have played well in their first games as professionals.

There won’t be much excitement for former Cats this year as Joe Crawford appears to be the only former UK player taking part in any of the leagues (he and the Lakers begin play Friday). The Celtics, who are one of the teams not participating in any of the leagues, have Randolph Morris in their camp as he takes on the daunting task of trying to fill the role vacated when Scot Pollard’s contract expired. I can't wait to see what happens.

New Scout.com Rankings Released

Nothing of note is really going on and the only news worth following is that the new Scout.com rankings were released for the AAU halfway point. Jon Hood was the big riser in the recent rankings, moving up from the 60s to #36. This means that Hood’s ranking is now closer to his Rivals placement (which was slightly high in my view) and puts him in contention for the McDonalds game if he has a good high school season. Hood is a player UK fans will love and the attention he is getting from the national services is great to see. In other news, John Wall came in at #3 and Daniel Orton at #10….high rankings for two guys UK is still hotly pursuing.

Rich Brooks having Boat Trouble

Rich Brooks was one of three people on a boat that capsized this morning on the McKenzie River in Oregon. Luckily, no one was hurt. No word yet on whether or not this daredevil stunt was a very sly way of landing yet another 2009 recruit.

Rivals changed rankings again

Rivals updated their top 150 players again today and a couple of UK recruits and commits saw their stock move a bit. Jon Hood moved down from the 19 to 24 in the overall rankings, but remained a 5-star player. The biggest dip, was from Shawn Kemp, Jr. who fell from a 5-star, 25th-ranked player in the last rankings to a 4-star and the 83rd player overall. I think this new ranking is much more indicative of the type of player that Kemp is at the moment, but he certainly has the potential to be a 5-star again. Right now, he just hasn’t played enough basketball up to this point to develop past a very raw stage. Point guard G.J. Vilarino remained unranked with three stars.

UK Basketball Musuem Shuts Down

In a story that has now been picked up by ESPN, today marks the end of the UK Basketball Museum in the Lexington Center as it was shut down for financial reasons. Ultimately the museum suffered from a lack of visitors and was unable to sustain itself financially. The University, which donates approximately $100,000 a year to the facility, will now use that money to pay off the debt for the museum and move the memorabilia to the Craft Center on campus. The University has said that it will not have a museum on campus, but will have displays of some memorabilia in public areas.

In the end, it is somewhat of a sad scenario as the UK basketball museum was an impressive creation and has been wonderful for all things, including recruiting. However ultimately it fell to the laws of the free market as not enough people wanted to visit to justify the cost that was required to maintain it in its current structure. The museum was a truly unique part of Kentucky basketball and its history, and it will be missed.

I am still not spending much time at the computer, but a piece of news did show up on my radar. Georgia guard Trae Golden, a top ranked player from the class of 2010 has decommitted from Ohio State. You may remember Golden as one of the first players to put Kentucky as his leader early in the Gillispie era. Golden is now back on the market and you have to think that Kentucky will be one of his top choices. This story shows (a) how fickle early commitments like this are and (b) how a true STUD in the Class of 2010 (which could shape up to be some kind of class) is now back on the Cats’ radar.

Another Kentucky Walk-on

Matt May of The Cats Pause reports today that UK has another walk-on. Mark Halcell (#20 in the picture above) played high school and JUCO ball with Josh and will join Dwight Perry, Mark Krebs, Matt Schnerbenske, Landon Slone, Adam Delph and who knows who else as walk-ons on the UK team this year (no word on whether the guy sitting on the court will be brought in as well). Mister Cobble is a Wildcat

The next Wildcat to be on the Football 2010 Roster is DT Mister Cobble (Catchey name). For what I have heard he is not that bad and he is refered to corey Peters for the Way he playes. This is what scout had to say about them.

"While he only stands 6-foot Mister Cobble has great burst and explosion from the defensive tackle position. Plays a lot like University of Cincinnati defensive tackle Terrill Bryd as he stays low and gets leverage to win battles. Camps and combines will make or break his college future."

He also playes alot like Terrill Bryd. I guess that's a good sign. Good Job for the coaching staff.

Winston Guy is back

Billy Gillispie is still recruiting for 2008 and yet again he is still looking for a guard. The guards name is Eshaunte Jones. This guy has committed to two schools and backed out of them both. Jones originally committed to Indiana, then split that sinking ship way before it began sinking. He then decided it was time to go to Oregon State, but the coach he committed to got fired and found another coach he didn't like. So now he is back on the market according to ESPN and is looking at Nebraska and Kentucky. Why Nebraska? This guy has no taste for colleges other than Kentucky. This guy, I heard, can shoot flat out and can be a major impact his first season. He may commit to Nebraska but that's not the end of the world couse for all we know he can really suck it up in the college level. The reason for that is because he was recruited by Tubby Smith so its a win win situation to the Kentucky Basketball Team.

This guy I heard is really good at tight end and hopes that he will play tight end at Kentucky. People has said that he plays similar to Kentucky's Jacob Tamme, probably only because he is from the same city as Jacob tamme. So I think Jordan and Jacob has tons in common. This guy I hope will be a major impact on the Kentucky Wildcats football team in the next couple of years.

The Kentucky Wildcats Football Team will have a differnet Uniform. That's right, they are changing their coolest uniform to something really plain. I don't like the new Jersey but a jersey is a jersey. So I am not going to be really disappointed about a jersey. I have also heard that the football team pants will also be with stripes but with black also. I think thats interesting. I don't think one of Kentucky's colors is black but once again a jersey is a jersey. Also I have heard that they will have alternates and the creater of the uniforms made the uniforms of Oregon. And Oregon has Pretty bad uniforms. Compare the two to see what you think.

Tayshaun Going to Beijing

It is official. Tayshaun Prince will be the newest USA team basketball player this year. This is no surprise as he got on the team. This guy is phenomenal and he has been on the NBA's defensive team 4 times in a row. Mike Krzyzewski likes players like Tayshaun to do a great job at the defensive end and still score points and average about 15 a game. See Tayshaun isn't like any other player to me. He is a player that shuts his mouth and plays and not only does he play but he plays and does everything for your team. He is a leader, runs the floor although he is 6'9, back you down low, dunk over you, shoot the three, comes up with the game changing play in games, can block you from out of nowhere, guards you like he's stuck on you. This is a guy that you want on your team. Congrats to the USA team for picking him up.

Gillispie agrees to stop recruiting young players

Coach Billy Gillispie said today that he’ll abide by a National Association of Basketball Coaches request that college basketball coaches not extend scholarship offers or accept verbal commitments from players in their high school sophomore years or younger.

“I fully support anything the coaches’ leadership and governing body thinks is best for college basketball and high-school age basketball players,” Gillispie said in a phone interview. “It’s not like you’re not going to go out and evaluate young players. They’ve just strongly encouraged us not to seek a commitment, offer a scholarship, those kids of things, which we definitely will adhere to.”

In a statement released today, the NABC Board of Directors announced that it “strongly opposes 10th grade students and younger from making commitments to collegiate institutions for the purpose of playing men’s basketball.”

Furthermore, the statement continued, “the Board asks men’s basketball coaches to refrain from offering or encouraging these young people to make such commitments.”

Gillispie said the NABC’s request won’t change the way his program goes about evaluating talent. He still intends to watch players and pinpoint recruiting targets at an early age.

“It’s just going to change the time frame as far as offering scholarships and accepting commitments,” Gillispie said.

This spring, Gillispie accepted verbal commitments from eighth-grader Michael Avery of Lake Sherwood, Calif., and freshman Vinny Zollo of Greenfield, Ohio.

But Gillispie said he “absolutely” didn’t feel singled out by the NABC’s statement, adding that NABC officials – including former UK coach Tubby Smith, the organization’s current president, and Jim Haney, its executive director – “have made sure that I didn’t feel that way.”

In its statement, the NABC Board of Directors asked that coaches not extend scholarship offers or accept commitments until June 15 following the conclusion of a prospect’s sophomore year.

That coincides with the first date that coaches are allowed to initiate contact with prospective student-athletes.

And if a high-profile young player makes contact with a coach asking to give a verbal commitment?

“You just say that the NABC leadership has asked that we don’t accept a commitment until a particular time and we don’t offer a scholarship until a particular time, and I fully support that,” Gillispie said.

Rajon Rondo Helps Bring Home the Championship

Rajon Rondo and the Celtics won last night thanks to partially Ray Allan, KG, and Paul Pierce. But the Main reason I think Rajon Rondo was the biggest reason for the Celtics win last night is because he had not only over 20 Points last night but 6 steals 4 assists. That is phenomenal for a young Point Guard in the NBA Finals.

Likes: I liked what the Celtics did with Rajon. Spread the floor and if there was a double team on one of the Big Three then Pass to Rajon for the 4th man. And another likes of mine is they played with heart. It was the saying "who wants it more" and Los Angelous did not want it more, its that simple.

Now we get to the Dislikes: I just could not stand the way the Celtics ran their mouths during the whole game to the Los Angelous Lakers. I saw the celebrating in the 3rd quarter thinking that they will win, which they did. But I dont understand why you would celebrate the third quarter, that's like giving the Los Angelous Lakers a slap in the face. My opinion about this, they need to learn sportsman ship. Its that simple they need to learn sportsmanship. Also what I couldn't stand watching is the Celtics Fans. As I watched (in the 3rd quarter) the Celtics fans were so horrible that they sang "Na na na na hey hey hey GOOOOOOdBY" I have to say they are the worst fans in any sport. I thought to myself last night show some class please at least say it when the game is over at least. Another after the game I saw the whole Laker team went to shake the Celtics hands and the Celtics were to busy Celebrating, CELEBRATING. Not having sportsmanship they are celebrating. That is really unclassy. Last but not least the most that got on my nerve last night is when Kevin Garnett was just acting like an Idiot and just screamed like he was loosing his mind. I would understand crying couse your in the moment but yelling that is just ridiculous. I thought I was done but thought one more thing and that thing is is that after the game Keving Garnett was looking all thug as he went up to one of the Legends in basketball. Just show class that's all I am going with it.

Chauncey Billups Not playing in Olimpics

Chauncey Billups made a tough decision today by not suiting up to play in Beijing. Last year, Billups played for the U.S. team that was led by Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony during an unbeaten run in an Olympic qualifying tournament. This is a HUGE loss for the American team as they need more depth at the PG spot. I'm thinking like Chris Paul or Jason Kidd. Good Luck to Tayshaun in the tryouts.

Javon Walker Injured

I just found some horrible news today that New Raiders Wide Receiver was found unconscious on a Las Vegas street where he was beaten and robbed. He was hospitalized with a concussion and a battered face Tuesday after a night of partying. The police in Las Vegas said large amounts of money and jewelry were stolen from Javon Walker.

This is what the police had to say, "We don't believe this is a random act," Nichols told the San Francisco Chronicle, adding that police believe Walker was alone at the time of the attack. "They knew who he was and [Walker] presented a target.

He also had to say, "We did get a surveillance [video] of a vehicle and suspects that may have been involved. We know there were suspects, possibly two [but] we haven't identified anyone yet."

A large amount of money and jewelry was stolen that night. How much exactly? 3,000 dollars in cash and about 100,000 dollars in Jewelry. The jewelry included a watch, a necklace and earrings.

This guy is one of the most classiest player in the NFL. I wish him the best of luck and to get well soon to get back out onto the practice field.

Memphis got another good player

And when I thought about this today I thought, "Where does Memphis come up with all these scholarships? Shouldn't’t they be on probation?" I think the NCAA should Buckle Down and see what's going on over there in Memphis. Memphis is ought to be breaking the rules once out of this year in recruiting.

Perry Stevenson works on mid range shot

I have found word that perry Stevenson is working on his mid range game for nect year's kentucky team. If you watched any Kentucky Basketball games you could see that Perry could hit the mid range jumper accasionally, now he wants to hit it all the time. I have heard that he likes playing the inside-outside game. That's why he is woking so hard at the jumpshot. the one who is working with the inside-outside game is you gessed it Patrick Patterson. They spend a couple of hours after practice just for a jump shot. If he masters the jumpshot from 15-17 feet then Kentucky (in my opinion) will be very hard to beat. Watch out Vandy, looks like we might have a deadly shooter next year!!!!!!

Marcus Vick or Michael Vick?

Brandon Jones in Trouble?

Tennessee Titans receiver Brandon Jones faces a misdemeanor charge for unlawful possession of a handgun after trying to carry the weapon through a security checkpoint in his bag.

Mary Margaret Miller, a spokeswoman for Nashville International Airport, said Jones was issued a citation for carrying a loaded .32 caliber gun in his baggage Friday morning. She said Jones was cited after the gun was found at a regular security checkpoint.

Jones was later released and caught his plane to go to Phoenix. He apologized to the Fans, Titans and his family for any embarrassment that the incident caused them.

This is what Jones had to say, "Obviously I did not know I was carrying my gun. This morning I grabbed a bag and placed my clothing in the bag, then rushed to the airport. I had forgotten that the last time I had used the bag was when I went target shooting." How can you forget your gun in your bag? Especially when you are going to the airport.

Jones said he fully cooperated and that authorities took away the handgun at the security gate. He said he has a license for the gun along with a permit allowing him to carry the weapon.

He also added, "Realizing that I was not intentionally carrying the handgun nor did I have any intention of harming anyone, I was allowed to board my airplane and continue my travels."

The Titans are aware of the incident but have no comment.

This guy needs to be careful for now on or people will start having second thoughts about him.

So, let’s say your on th eve of winning the NBA Championship and you have some free time. How do you spend it? Well, if you’re Rajon Rondo, you go see One Missed Call featuring the super sexy Shannyn Sossamon (alliteration anyone?). Unfortunately, the silky smooth point guard didn’t like what he saw and, in a blog titled “I just got Rondo’d”, he outlined how awful it was. Here are his thoughts:

“U wanna waste an hour and 8 minutes of your life? I did. I JUST GOT RONDO’D. I just saw the worst movie. I thought I would just have a chill night tonight. We had a team dinner earlier today, and after that, I thought I would come back to the room and watch a movie with my family. Soooo…we took a vote and decided on “One Missed Call.” Hands down it was the wackest, most horrible, sorry, miserable, lousy, inappropriate, disappointing, pathetic, deplorable, atrocious, awful movie I’ve ever seen in my life. I wanted to call the front desk and ask for my money back. I can not believe that movie was that bad. It definitely made my top 3 worst movies list.

Here’s my top three worst movies list:

1) Semi-Pro…it put me to sleep

3) The Mist…funny when it wasn’t supposed to be

I don't know why he has the Cats in his final 3 couse I did not know Billy Gillispie was recruiting this guy. Rivals did not know it and scout did not know it either. If Billy Gillispie pulls this off and gets a guy like stevenson and Orton than Kentucky will be unstopable in 09. Not to mention Jon Wall the #1 prospect in the nation and 1st overall in PG on Rivals.com. If Kentucky gets this guy as well then we have something here. Pistons looking to trade Prince

Pistons general manager Joe Dumars has made it no secret that there are going to be major changes with the Detroit Pistons roster over the summer and one of Kentucky’s finest might be one of the major player’s in this Pistons revamping effort. According to ESPN’s Chad Ford, there are six trades that the Pistons could make and Tayshaun Prince finds himself in five of them. Here are what Ford has suggested and how these deals could affect Prince.

1. Denver’s Carmelo Anthony, Chucky Atkins and No. 20 pick for Billups and Prince
This is the deal that I’ve seen rumored the most (or some variation involving the Nuggets) and I think this is the best situation for Prince. This would put him with another playoff team and the Nuggets would get consistent point guard play (which they haven’t had since Andre Miller was there) and a solid glue-guy like Prince. This trade might actually push the Nuggets to the top of the conference and give AI one last run at the Finals. That is, as long as George Karl stops doing this.
2. Utah’s Carlos Boozer, Ronnie Brewer, Jarron Collins and Morris Almond for Hamilton, Prince and Arron Afflalo
I don’t like this deal at all for Prince or the Jazz. By giving up Boozer and bringing in Tayshaun and Hamilton, you’re basically leaving yourself with the Detroit Pistons minus Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess. Mehmet Okur treats the paint like it’s going to give him the Turkish Black Death and Paul Millsap just can’t get the job done alone. Not a good deal for either party.
3. Dallas’ Josh Howard for Tayshaun Prince or Richard Hamilton
Not good for Tayshaun. Not at all. I love the Mavs but this is a sinking ship. He wants no part of it.
4. Charlotte’s Gerald Wallace, Adam Morrison, Sean May and No. 9 pick for Rasheed Wallace and Tayshaun Prince
This actually intrigues me quite a bit. It seems like a little too much to give up for Wallace and Prince since Rasheed is aging, but this puts Charlotte in a position to compete in the East. With Larry Brown getting two guys familiar with his system and then adding them to Jason Richardson, Raymond Felton, Emeka Okafor and the gang, there is some solid potential there. Plus, landing in Charlotte would give Prince a better shot of spending the last part of his career on a contending team, rather than a declining one.
5. New Jersey’s Richard Jefferson, Nenad Krstic (via sign-and-trade) and No. 10 pick for Rasheed Wallace and Tayshaun Prince
This doesn’t really get my blood pumping here either. By reuniting Wallace and Vince Carter and putting them on the court with Devin Harris and either Josh Boone or Sean Williams you probably have a playoff team, but not much else. The collection of garbage that Dallas sent last year isn’t going to get it done in a series.

So, for the sake of Tayshaun, I say they keep him in Detroit or they ship him to Denver. None of these deals really get me too fired up and I can’t see them working out too well in his favor.

On the experience as a whole…
“Well, it was hot. It was about 115 degrees every day. I think it rained once. Other than that, everything was different. The food was different. The people were different. They all spoke French. We had a translator, so that helped us get around town, but it was just a big cultural change.”
On the countries visited…
“We went to Senegal the first time, for about five days, and then the rest of the time we went to Mali.”
On ‘an Audience of One’…
“That was our main focus for the team, playing for an Audience of One. And that was our biggest reason to go over there, because we want to share with others about God. So we had to make sure we were playing for Him and not focused on the Africans and the audience. Every time we went down they would cheer, but we couldn’t get caught up in that. We had a lot of bad calls over there, but we couldn’t get mad at the referees or anything like that. For one thing they couldn’t speak English, so we couldn’t complain to them. But that’s what I learned.”
On expectations about the trip…
“Before leaving, I was real cautious about even going, up until the last day. I didn’t know what to expect. I really didn’t talk to that many people that had done this before. Everybody I’d talked to had never been to Africa, they just always wanted to go, so I didn’t have any resources to fall back on. I was really skeptical from what I’d seen on TV, just what everyone thinks Africa is. I kind of thought we’d be living in tents and stuff like that. But it was different and I thought it was a great experience, going over there and putting away those false visions of what Africa is. Some places are like that, but where we were it wasn’t like that at all.”
On the travel accommodations…
“We flew out of Ohio into Washington, then Washington to New York. From there it was almost seven hours to get across the water to Paris and then about a six hour flight going down to Bamako.
“I struggled every time to get an exit row seat. I didn’t have a big seat on the way over there, but luckily the stewardesses were nice. They bumped me up to first class, so that was pretty awesome.”
On their competition…
“They’re not very big over there, like they don’t work out. They don’t eat a lot over there, so it’s really hard for them to get big. But they’re very athletic. Their game is getting rebounds and that’s how they scored a lot, getting a lot of rebounds. They’re just athletic. You always had to watch your back so you wouldn’t get dunked on or anything like that.”
Did you get dunked on?
“No, I never got dunked on.”
On the 7-foot, 5-inch African player…
“I think he was 22 years old. I don’t think he was very coordinated. He played only about four years of basketball, so I think that affected him, but according to his teammates he was getting a lot better.”
On community activities outside of basketball…
“We went to three or four schools. That was probably one of the best experiences we had, one of the most moving experiences in Africa. In their classrooms, there’s no air conditioning, no doors or anything like that, so there’s all kinds of insects and flies and stuff in there.
“The kids just had so much respect. Any time we would walk into the classroom they would all stand up and wait for the teacher to tell them to sit back down. They had a lot of respect, and just for the situation they were in, I really respected them for that.”
On his experiences at the orphanage…
“I didn’t have anything really like that [similar to Ramon’s]. I just played with the children some.
“The guy who was running the orphanage was talking about how it’s illegal in Mali to put up children for adoption, so parents would just put these children in garbage pails and on top of garbage cans so people could find them. That was kind of moving too, because I don’t see how parents can do that. I guess we have some similar instances over here in the United States, but it was just a sad experience.”
On the food…
“(We had) very little portions. There were a lot of mystery meats over there, mystery birds. I don’t think we ever ate chicken, but we ate all kinds of little birds. I don’t know what it was, but it was good.”
On weight loss…
“I lost like 5 pounds, but I gained it back over the last couple of days because I ate a lot.”
On the trip as the experience of a lifetime…
“People always talk about trips like going to Africa on TV. People say it’s a life changing experience, and it’s definitely been a life changing experience for me. How people handle themselves over there, and what they have, and what they have to deal with makes me thankful for everything that I have – that we have – over here. It’s amazing.”
On the impact the trip had had on self-confidence and the approach to the game…
“Like Ramon said, playing for an Audience of One will definitely change the way I play.
“Confidence-wise, it was a good chance for me to go out and get some playing time, to go out there and just play basketball against some pretty good competition. I played a lot of good minutes out there, too, and put up some pretty good numbers, so I think it’s definitely helped my confidence.”

On how the trip to Africa was a new experience…
“It was definitely a different experience because in Africa a lot of people don’t have anything. What they have is what they can carry. We met a lot of people and learned about how they were raised and how they grew up, but the entire time they always had a smile on their face. We talked to men and women that only had a hut or just a corner, but they had a smile from ear to ear. By seeing that, it definitely humbled everyone on the trip because they were happy even though they didn’t have much to go home to. It made me think about how I act and how I complain a lot about things that are basically given to me.”
On improving as a player from the experience…
“On the trip, we learned about playing for the audience of one. This basically means playing for the glory of God. If you do it for the glory of Him, then everything else will fall into place. Sometimes you get caught up in playing in front of your hometown fans, or trying to impress the coaches at practice. You really forget that you’re really playing for the audience of one. While we were down there we learned how to play for fun because if you play for fun, it makes the game so much easier.”
On what he learned on the trip…
“I thought it was going to be a basketball trip but I learned about my faith more. I came to realize that basketball was just the entertainment part of the trip. The real trip was getting to know God and finding how I can use Him in my life. We learned how we can affect other people’s lives, not just by spreading the word, but by putting a smile on their face. That was the true meaning of our trip.”
On the role basketball played on the trip…
“Basketball was the even ground between two different cultures. By playing the game, we created a lot of friendships. We were at a place called SEEDS (Sports for Education and Economic Development) Academy which was basically a prep school in Africa. They had a lot of athletes. Everyone out there was so nice. We learned from them and they learned from us. It made it hard to leave, because you never know if you’ll see them again. The trip showed how it should be and how we should interact with others. We were strangers and we came into their town and their culture and still they accepted us since day one.”
On visiting the orphanage…
“The first day we went to an orphanage and there was a little girl. She couldn’t have been older than one and a half. She crawled to me, so I picked her up. She pointed to the cartoons on the TV and started talking. I took her over to the TV and she started talking and playing a lot. I was with her for two hours. When it came time for us to leave, I tried to put her down and she started crying. She stopped when I picked her up again. Then I put her down and she started crying again. At that point, I started crying because she’d grown attached to me. It was the hardest thing, because we had to leave for a game, and even if I just moved her from my chest she would start crying again. It was so hard to put her back in the crib and just let her cry; because it wasn’t the first time she’d been left. I started crying because I felt like I built a relationship, even though she was a little girl. The fact that she was talking to me made it feel like there was a connection. When we came back the second day, she saw me and walked over to me. She grabbed my finger and I started to cry because she remembered me. That day I was with her for three hours. I walked with her, I played ball with her and I fed her and burped her. It was really hard to leave that day because she remembered me. When a little child remembers you, it’s amazing. To leave that day was the hardest thing I had to do that trip.”
On playing basketball in Africa…
“It’s different. We played people who were representing their hometown. Their hometown was supporting them, playing their national songs and blowing whistles. It was a great experience because we built relationships with not only the players but their families and their kids. We had a banquet with all of the teams. We played music and they were dancing together. They were showing us how they dance and what the dances mean. Learning things like that is only something you can do once in a lifetime.”
On how the trip affected him as a basketball player…
“It’s helped my confidence a lot because they play hard every single play. I see why they do, because they are really playing for their families. For some of them, being in the gym is the best place they’ve been all day, best looking place, best air-conditioned place. Confidence wise, it really helped because they play a different style of game. Seeing Jared (Carter) out there playing better than I’ve ever seen him play before really helped because it made me want to play better. It made me want to up my game and play harder than the competition. Jared definitely did that the entire trip.”

Pre Game Fight Strategy?

The other day before the game against Fresno State, the Arizona Sate baseball team got a little hot. The players Brent Wallace and Ike Davis skirmished and that skirmish apparently spread throughout the whole team. Know everybody found out that the fight was staged apparently with the coaches knowledge. It was an attemt to loosen up the Arizona state team and give their opponents who were watching, something to think about. What is so rediculous is Arizona lost the same day. And I ask myself what do I think about their fight strategy?

My Answere: Clearly it was stupid and I would say that before the game. A fight can not get you to win the game. It can't even get you pumped up. It's a stupid idea. If somebody came up to me and said this idea I would say you are outside your damn mind. Why would you even think that. First of all college baseball teams don't get into fights, yet alone, with themselves. Second I don't want to look like an idiot on television. Arizona state was ranked 3rd nationally and they pull a stunt like that. They are the most idiotic team this seaon, no doubt.

Rajon Going to Play in Game 4

Are Celtics still in Drivers seat?

I have to say yeah they are. Besides Kobe Bryant and Ray Allan the other side, the starters werent there. You know maybe it was fatique, they flew, I don't know 6 hours from Boston to Los Angelous. That's a very long trip in a short of time. The main reason the Celtics are in the drivers seat is mainly beacause the lakers did not play well and the Celtics almost came out with the victory. I have to say that Sasha vujacic (whatever his name is) saved the lakers last night couse, he bailed out Gasol and Odom and Derek Fisher. They all had bad games. That's why it was a low scoring game. But it's not a shocker that Odom and Gasol has not shown up. They have not played well in the playoffs this whole year. So I am thinking that Kobe has to do something that Lebron James had to do last year is that you have to carry your team to victory. It's that simple. I don't see Gasol and Odom stepping it up in the Finals. If they can't do it in the other series they can't do it in the Finals. But odds are slim that Kobe will pull this off by himself against the Celtics defense. This series is really interesting

Chuck Hayes Birthday

Notice the sun shining a little brighter today? It’s because one of the most beloved players in UK history turns 25 today and you might as well spend the rest of the night celebrating. Chuck Hayes selected UK over Kansas and came to Lexington in 2001 as somewhat of an unknown in a recruiting class including McDonald’s All-American Rashaad Carruth, Kentucky Mr. Basketball Josh Carrier and Ballard’s Adam Chiles. Despite being a Parade All-American and California’s Mr. Basketball, ESPN ranked Hayes as the 83rd overall player in the class and the 18th best small forward behind a group of players who don’t exactly get your blood pumping. And, in case you were living in a cave for the past seven years…

All Hayes did at UK was win 81% of the games he played in while posting career averages of 9 ppg and 6.8 rpg and providing the steady leadership and hustle that made him a fan favorite. In his time in Lexington, Hayes tied Alex Groza for the record for most games started by a Wildcat (110) and was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team, all three All-SEC teams, the SEC Tournament Team, the NCAA All-Region team and earned 2004 SEC Defensive Player of the Year Honors. He also played on the 2003 Pan-Am Games team. Hayes finished his career ranked 7th in rebounds, 8th in steals, 9th in blocked shots, and 35th in points. After leaving Kentucky, Hayes was named as the MVP of the Portsmouth pre-draft camp, but went undrafted. But, in typical Hayes fashion, he led the NBDL in rebounding (12.2) for about half a season and then earned a spot on the Rockets where he has become a fixture in their rotation.

Of course, that’s “classic SEC sabre rattling” meant to fire up the Tiger nation and keep Urban Meyer up a little later every night devising ways to slow Holliday down. Fastest ever?! Who knows?! Rondo 16 Assists

It was a big night for Kentucky fans last night as Rajon Rondo led the Celtics to a series 2-0 lead over the Los Angelous Lakers in the NBA Finals. Rajon had a pretty good night last night as he had 16 Assists. I would tell you about his points but this is more interesting. The last player to have at least 15 assists or higher in the NBA Finals was Magic Johnson and that was 20 years ago. Look, I knew Rajon was good but not this good. This guy has shut up all the scouts and made a name for himself. He has toons of fans. Right when his website opened thats where he had his signup for his own camp and it was sold out the first day. Thats crazy. This guy if he still working hard would be probably better than Tayshaun Prince and the best Wildcat to play in the NBA.

I recieved word that the Pistons are trying to get Carmelo Anthony. Alos I have heard that the Pistons may put Chauncey Billups on the chopping block to trade. But thats a rumar. Look Camelo is a great player, dont get me wrong but he doesnt have the experiance like Chauncey that will get you to the NBA Finals. But its a win win situation for Detroit though. One of the best QB's coming out of college this year is QB Morgan Newton. Whta does he got to do with Kentucky? Well it looks like Rich Brooks has done his recruiting. Newton is a 5 star on scout.com but not ranked on rivals cause they have not done the rankings for football yet. This guy looks pretty talented for what I watched on rivals.com. Can't wait till he drops his list to under 5.

Cohen Reigned as head coach of Kentucky Baseball

John Cohen resigned as Kentucky's Baseball coach today. All I know is is that he could not handle the pressure. How can you not handle the pressure at Kentucky for baseball. I don't get it. Kentucky doesn't care about baseball as much than basketball and football. Let me refrase that. You shouldn't put football in there but I will. I heard some rumers on the radio and on online that Cohen will go to Mississippi to Coach. Rather be in Kentucky than being in the middle of nowhere.

The NBA Finals 2008

The NBA Finals has Rajon Rondo and the Celtics up against the best offensive team (I think) In the NBA. I have the Lakers in 6 games, although the Celtics have Home Court advantage. The Celtics are one of the best defensive teams in the NBA as well so it will be a interesting, but I am not pumped up as I usaully am for the finals though. I wish Rajon Rondo a good luck in the Finals. Speaking of Rajon Rondo here is his new website.

The Detroit Pistons are looking for a GREAT Coach, but I don't think they now what GREAT is. The coach they talked too today was Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson. Why? Why this coach. Why not Avery Johnson or Curry (Assistant Coach Pistons). Those are GREAT Coaches not Mike Woodson. I know why you like him Dumars couse he brought a crapy team to the NBA playoffs. Flip Saunders did that and he did not do anything in Detroit. Listin get Avery Johnson or Curry form the Pistons.

Matt Pilgrim newest Wildcat

The University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team got a new member of the 2009 class. Matt Pilgrim. Matt Pilgrim transferred from Hampton and had a decent 2 years there. He averaged 7.7 PPG and 0.8 APG with a .302 3P%. He also had 5.2 RPG, 1.2 BPG, and 1.2 SPG. I don't know if this guy is good or not, but I am excited that he is coming to Kentucky and play for them. I think this guy knows what it takes to play at this level for Kentucky in the SEC. This guy is already enrolled there and taking classes. I like a guy who takes his classes and his schoolwork seriously and still play basketball. I since something about this guy. I have a feeling that he will be something great not just on the court but in the schoolroom as well.

Flip Saunders Fired

Just found word that the Pistons Head Coach Flip Saunders was fired by Joe Dumars. (The President of the Pistons.

"Decisions like this are difficult to make," team president Joe Dumars said on the team's Web site. "However, at this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change."

In his three seasons, the Pistons were 176-70 in the regular season and 30-21 in the postseason, but they lost in the conference finals each year.

Saunders had a year left on a four-year deal he signed in 2005. He replaced Larry Brown, who won a title in two trips to the NBA Finals.

He has a career record of 587-296 in 13 years with the Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves.

This guy was a good coach. Was he a great coach for a great team? No. But I respect him for stepping up to the plate and trying to hit the home run. I can tell he wanted to win the title but he just chocked. I am sorry that I have to say that about my NBA team but that's the truth. If you got to the Eastern Conference Finals for three strait seasons you have to at least go to the NBA finals once. That's all. One time out of three and he couldn't do that. That's the price you pay for not succeeding your expectations. So whats next for Tayshaun Prince and the Pistons for a coach. Hopefully Joe Dumars does not do a Bonehead decision again and get a really great experienced coach.

Pacman Reinstated?

I just watched SportSCenter a couple of minutes ago and heard that Pacman Jones has been partially reinstated by Roger Goodell. Is this the right move? I don't know? Is Pacman going to act up again and make it rain. Probably. Can you do anything about it? NO!!!! This guy is a strait thug he needs to be kicked out of the NFL and live on the streets. He is sooooo bad that i have been at stores with Pacaman jerseys and some kids ask their mothers or fathers if they can have a Pacman Jones jersey and most of them talked him out of it and asked the kid to by a Vince young Jersey. But some of the other parents just said NO. Pacman is bad news. I won't be surprised if he gets caught breaking the law again. What is jerry Jones thinking? Does he really think that he can keep Pacman out of trouble? Good luck with that Jerry. I am not only a Kentucky, Pistons fan. I am a huge Titans fan as well. Pacman was and is a disgrace to the whole franchise. It will be interesting to see what Pacman does next.

Jay Bruce on Fire!

Jay Bruce just started his rookie season on fire by hitting 3 home runs and 7 RBI's and his Batting Average is .577. That is outstanding for a rookie just comming into the league. I don't care what people say it's really hard to hit a 90 mile an hour pitch coming out to you.

Rajon Rondo and Celtics makeing a BIG Statement

I had a fun time watching the Boston and Detroit game. It was mostly a close game throughout the game.

Let's start again about Tayshaun Prince. His performance last night was a whole lot better than any of the other games in the Eastern Conference Finals. He had only 1 point before halftime but flipped the switch in the third quarter and got 9 points. Plus he held pierce to a everage game. It was not enouph though, to stop Rajon Rondo and the Celtics. Congrats to the Celtics for advanceing to the Finals against the Lakers.

Detorit in game 6

The Detroit and Boston Game is on tonight and Boston has a game lead. The Pistons I think is worn out in this series. Only because they have to chase the Boston Three Party all game long. That's why I think Tayshaun Prince is not doing good on the offensive end cause he is tired guarding pierce or allan all game long. My apologies to Tayshaun on the previous posts. All night I stayed up and thought about the game and how Tayshaun would do and I think this is where he is going to do good not just on the defensive end but on the offensive end too. Its now or never for Tayshaun Prince. By the way Tayshaun has had a good series about his defense. Paul Pierce had people guard him 100% and still punished them, see, you have to guard him 150% percent to have him average 20 a game. Kudos to Tayshaun. I have the Pistons in game 6 to win to go to game 7 in Boston.
